ROLE – The primary function of the Lead Designer is to lead and inspire a talented team of digital media designers to consistently deliver both original and contract projects that are creatively and commercially well received.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Digital Media Design: Take responsibility for the successful design of assigned projects:
- In conjunction with the Producer, create an overall vision for the project
- Create digital media projects in conjunction with your design team that are fun for the desired target audience
- Designs apps and other projects for the market and not themselves
- Stays up to date with the current state of design in the industry
- Highly knowledgeable of current best reviewed and best selling digital media products
- Able to effectively communicate their vision for the project to the rest of the team (art, design, code, sound)
- Solid understanding of core mechanics and how to incorporate these into the larger project
- Strong understanding of the current market
- Able to craft well designed apps and digital media products for a variety of clients and demographics
- Out of the box, innovative approach to design processes
Development Team Interaction
- Communicate and “sell” artists, programmers, management on your vision and direction
- Initiate and support an all encompassing, cross discipline creative team environment
- Have a solid understanding of what is possible artistically and technologically
Documentation
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of all design-related documentation i.e. Design Document
- Work with the other Leads (Art Director, Producer, Technical Director) to develop project specifications that define the scope of the project, requirements of the prototype, and deliverables of milestones
Staff Support
- Manage a small team of designers
- Complete the performance reviews of team members on time
- Help settle project-related design conflicts and disputes
- Ensure that the design team’s work environment is healthy and facilitates a high degree of creativity and productivity

- Multi tasking: able to design multiple projects across multiple genres

- Solid knowledge of the digital media design and development process
- Strong documentation skills
- Ability to consistently deliver high quality innovative apps and digital media products that make a difference
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 4 years directly managing a design team
- Professional experience working in the digital media industry as a Lead or Senior designer at either the developer or agency level
- At least 3 AAA released projects (mobile, console, Web, PC/Mac)
- University degree or equivalent experience
